WHY I'M OK WITH STORES OPENING THEIR SALES ON THANKSGIVING

For the second or third year in a row now, the debate on stores being open for sales on the evening of Thanksgiving has been one of the more hotly debated subjects this time of year. Beginning the Black Friday sales the night before seems to have many detractors, and they aren’t afraid of voicing their opinion. Which is the way it should be…and I understand their point. Thanksgiving should be a time for family, and corporate greed shouldn’t take precedence on a holiday once untouchable as far as having big sales were concerned. All of that of course would begin in the wee hours of Friday morning when shoppers hopeful to score that once a year deal on an item, line up in droves to take advantage of all of the many Black Friday sales.
But I digress…I’m not here to talk about Black Friday…I’m here to talk about Thanksgiving, and stores one by one, and year by year, deciding to open the night before, thus “ruining” the Thanksgiving holiday of millions of families “together time.”
As you can probably tell by the title of this post, I have a slightly different opinion than most…well most of the people in my circle at least…judging by the amount of people who flock to these sales, my opinion is probably more in line with the majority. If not the majority, the opinions are split down the middle. Lets look at this from the other point of view just for a second, and I don’t mean the corporate cash-cow point of view…I’m talking about many of the people who volunteer to work the night of Thanksgiving, and the shoppers who support it as well.
First, the people working…While it’s true there are many who would rather not work, and would rather be with family, I have learned that a lot of the workers for the Thanksgiving sales are people who have volunteered to work-either for the extra pay around the holidays, or to get caught up on bills. Most employers pay time and a half, or even double time for holiday pay, so for many workers who have volunteered, it comes as a big help believe it or not. A lot of volunteers also, maybe volunteer to work because they don’t have family, or have lost family and the holidays can be depressing time for them. In their case, working a Thanksgiving “Black Thursday” sale is a chance to keep their minds off of things, and stay busy. Something with which I have no problem. Another thing to consider, is that many of the workers may have grown children, who have moved out on their own, and may have family with them for part of the day. A good example is my family…my mom and dad to be specific. My family has always enjoyed a big Thanksgiving lunch, and then spent the rest of the day relaxing, sleeping, being lazy…whatever it may be. When I got married, we had to start splitting time between my family, and my wifes family…meaning that we spent Thanksgiving lunch with my folks, and Thanksgiving dinner with hers. This in turn left my parents (and many others) with an evening much like every other one, with just the two of them at home. For people like this, working (or even shopping for that matter) is a choice that makes sense to them. Another example are people who have  children live out of town and might not be able to make it into town for the holidays…It’s a chance for them to work and make some extra money, or a chance for them to get some shopping out of the way before the Black Friday madness.
Now…this is not to discount the people who have to work that would rather not, and who will miss time away from their families, but I believe we need to look at both sides of this. At the very least, the majority of detractors get to spend a good half a day or more with their families, so it’s not as if they are being asked to work and miss the entire day as the majority of these sales start in the late afternoon and evening.  I do understand, and respect their opinion though…I do see their frustrations. But I also see the other side of it. There are people out there who appreciate the chance to work, and make some extra money...people who are in dire need of extra money-especially this time of year. For them, I’m actually glad they have a chance to work...and many of them are thankful for the much needed time and a half, or double time pay.
As far as the people who support it, I have no issue with them shopping either. Maybe their Thanksgiving days are stressful and they are looking for a chance to get out and do some shopping away from the madness of a wild and crazy family. Maybe the shopping is something they do as a family, and look forward to doing each year. Maybe again, like my folks, they find themselves home alone in the evening and it’s a chance for them to get out and beat some of the Black Friday crowds to get some Christmas shopping done. After all, they’ve had their big family lunch and a night out shopping is time together as much as it is at home. I really have no issue with it. There are quite a few people who don’t have a problem with it, as is evidenced by the numbers each year…there are obviously enough people going and supporting the Thanksgiving evening sales to justify keeping the stores open. It’s obviously not hurting their Thanksgiving.
Now...I know you’ll say “but there is people who’s Thanksgivings are being hurt” and you would be right. But in most cases, the people upset over having to work on Thanksgiving are at least getting to spend a half a day if not more with their family for the holiday. It doesn’t necessarily take away the frustration, but it’s better than nothing, and it is what it is...I have a feeling that like it or not, it’s here to stay, and while I’m not saying “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”, I am saying that many people volunteer to work this sale, and want to work this sale, and for financial reasons, need to work for the extra money to keep afloat...or to keep their minds off of things that might make their holidays less than enjoyable. We need to consider everyone and there are two very equal sides to this issue.
I certainly understand both sides to this story and both sides have a valid point. But based on the people I’ve talked to, heard from and know of, the other side of things isn’t as bad as I think people are making it out to be. I certainly don’t advocate boycotting stores that open on Thanksgiving, because by doing so, would be denying people who want to be there, and who need to be there a chance to work...and it would deny those who do shop a chance to do something they choose to do, and enjoy doing. Just because you wouldn’t shop yourself on Thanksgiving, doesn’t mean you have to attempt to take that right away from those who do, by way of petitions, and boycotts. There is a whole other point of view out there different from yours, and it has nothing to do with corporate greed and stores opening early to make more money. While their motivations to open may be ill conceived, and outright crummy, there are some positives that come from their decision. Ask the person who is struggling to pay rent, or pay their electric bill because of the cold weather. Ask the person who lives paycheck to paycheck barely making ends meet, and who can’t afford Christmas gifts for their children. For them, it’s a way to make the extra money so they can do those things...pay the electric bill, rent or provide some sort of Christmas for children who otherwise would not have a Christmas. Ask the lonely mother who has 2 children, both living out of state and neither able to make it for Thanksgiving, who sees it as a chance to not have to be home alone on a holiday evening. Ask those who sadly are depressed during the holidays for whatever reason, and they see this as a chance to keep their minds off the issues they are dealing with over the holidays. Ask those who (as oddly as it may seem) enjoy a crazy evening of shopping with their family...for many it’s a bonding experience.
We all have a choice. Support it or not. If you don’t want to go, thats great! If you do want to shop, good for you too. I just don’t believe it’s worth getting that riled up for...especially if you look at it from the point of view of many of those who work the evening on a volunteer basis. I also find it ironic that many of those who complain and scream for boycotts of stores who do this, are the same people who attend, or flip on their TV stations to watch one of however many NFL football games are being played on Thanksgiving. There is no difference. It’s a game. It’s entertainment. And for your entertainment, there are many people who actually have to work (and I’m not talking about the football players who are paid well for their services) on the game day staff and who do not get to spend time with their families either. Many of them making the same or less than those in stores...stadium crew...concessions, etc. And it’s supported by you, the consumer.

Now, a year ago, I might have a different opinion on this whole matter. In fact I did. I was ready to boycott and throw these corporate hogs under the proverbial bus, but I kind of see things in a different light this year. I’ve heard stories from people I come into contact on a daily basis who work at these stores...the Walmarts and the Targets. I ask them how they feel about having to work on the holiday. Surprisingly enough, many are thankful, grateful and joyous for the chance. Many still get to see their families for Thanksgiving, and they get the overtime pay. It’s the best of both worlds for them. I never stopped to consider how far the overtime pay might go for those less fortunate and in dire need of help. For them, it goes a long way...and when I tried looking at it from their shoes, I changed my tune.  And thats why I have no problem with stores starting their Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving.

Rating Seymour's Restaurants

Because when you have nothing better to do, you review restaurants? Sure...why not.

I'll use a rating scale of 1-5 with 1 being the worst of the worst and 5 being the best of the best. I will use the scale to rate not only the overall restaurant, but also other variables taken into account such as cleanliness, food quality, service, wait time etc.

Hope you enjoy this list. If you feel I've forgotten something, or you want to comment on the article, please by all means go ahead...I'd love to hear your thoughts!

WILLIE'S PIZZA & SUBS:
Thoughts: The previous location of the original Willie's now plays host to Willie's more casual fare...mainly pizza, some pasta and subs. Nothing big, nothing fancy. I've eaten there twice...both times eating something different. Both times the service was great, but the food was horrible. As far as their pizza...not good. The pizza tasted like cardboard with melted cheese...burnt on the bottom. Won't be back.

PAPA MURPHEY'S TAKE AND BAKE PIZZA:
Thoughts: As the only "take and bake" pizza joint in Seymour, this one does the job and more. Great ingredients, great tasting pizza...and for what it's worth, the novelty of watching them make your pizza "subway style" is nice and fun to watch for the kiddos. Plus you don't have to worry about who's making your pie, or what else may be on it...because you watch. It also helps that you are greeted with a smile most everytime you walk in.

McDONALDS:
Thoughts: Typical McDonalds...low quality food for a low price. Staffed by teenagers who are too young to care about the service they give you, or older people who are too old to care. The recent remodel of the building added to the looks, but thats about it. They added as second drive through lane, but it still funnels to the same drive through window, so it really kind of cancels itself out. The wait times at this drive through are what nightmares are made of.

KFC
Thoughts: If any restaurant in Seymour had potential, it would be this one. However, a lackluster staff, and a crack managment team have run this one into the ground. From never having enough supply to keep up with demand to the long wait times most days inside and out, this is one of the worst places. The only semi-positive here is that the buffet is good...50% of the time-when it's fresh. The other 50% of the time, cold hard buscuts, and crusted over mashed potatoes are never appealing. I've constantly had trouble ordering anything grilled, and I've even been told they only have the ability to cook 8 grilled pieces at a time, thus the reason they never have much grilled fare on hand.

HARDEE'S
Thoughts: Hardee's is what I like to call "The armpit of fast food restaurants." The Seymour location lives up tothat mantra in my opinion. From a seemingly always filthy store that desperately needs updating, to the general lack of service, this place is bad news. The only thing...and I do mean ONLY thing they have going for them is breakfast...however even that is hit and miss as they are one of the most inconsistent places I've ever eaten at. A breakfast buscuit will either be hot, fresh and tasty, or warmed over, cold, overcooked or burnt.  I just choose to stay away and avoid it all together. Plus...the location ("The Hardee's Hole) is horrible...hard to get to from the southbound side of Chapman Hwy.

SNAPPY TOMATO PIZZA
Thoughts: One of the newest additions to Seymour. Great pizza and a great price...a good alternative to Dominos and Papa Johns...their specialty pizza menu is what sets them apart for me...if you haven't had their Loaded Potato pizza, you have to give it a whirl. The subs are decent...nothing to write home about, but better than Subway...of course that wasn't a hard accomplishment.

TACO BELL
Thoughts: I'm not a huge fan of Mexian food, but when I do eat Taco Bell, I stay away from this one. Reason being? I could be the only customer in the joint...nobody in the drivethrough, nobody in the lobby. Completely empty. They would still take 20 minutes to get my order ready, and then it would be wrong. I just don't pay for service like that...and especially for faux mexican.

WHITE STAR MARKET
Thoughts: I've been eating here since I was a young chap...the steamed hoagies are the stuff legends are made out of. (And I know...becasue I'm I legend myself) I can't figure out if over the years, the hoagies have gotten smaller or I've gotten bigger, so I'll decline to rate on the size of the sandwich, and opt rather to rate on the quality. A-1. Fries are decent, burgers are decent, and the chili-dogs are great! If you can get past the fact that it's an old gas station/convenient store it'll be great. As far as the service goes, it's hit and miss depending on who's waiting on you and what mood they are in. I don't go for the atmosphere though...I go for the hoagies. A great place for take out. Oh and did I mention this place is pretty much a Seymour legend?

LITTLE CEASERS PIZZA:
Thoughts: There was a time when Little Ceasers was THE place for pizza. You could get two pies for the price of one, and they came in a cardboard tray slid into a paper bag. The pizza was good too! "Pizza Pizza" was the choice for school parties, birthdays, groups etc. However...now is not that time. Now Little Ceasers has turned into a place to grab a warmed over "hot and ready" pizza pie for $5. You know as well as I do, you get what you pay for...and for $5, you basically get a piece of luke-warm cardboard masquerading as a pizza. Hope you don't like cheese on your pizze, because you'll be lucky if you get a slice with cheese on it. Of course you can still order one of their 2 or 3 specialty pizzas, but the results will ultimatley be the same...you wishing you'd paid a few dollars more for something fresh that you could actually enjoy eating. The only bright spot for Little Ceasers are their breadsticks and their Itialian Cheese bread.

KRYSTAL:
Thoughts: If you like Krystal once in a blue moon, this will do. I wouldn't eat here more often than that. This is another place that is run by bafoons. In fact, now that I think about it, I think monkeys could run this place better than the crack crew they have there now. Talk about people just not caring...this place takes the cake. Note to anyone eating here though...if you do decide you want a Krystal, order on the inside and take it with you. I wouldn't recommend the dine-in experience here or the drive through. If you are in a hurry, order in for take out, otherwise you'll be making an extra trip back to have them fix your order.

WENDY'S
Thoughts: Probably the best fast food place in Seymour. It has it's flaws, but compared to the other places, it's head and shoulders above. They generally keep it clean, and most of the time the food is pretty consistent. The drive through is hit or miss...I've waited for 20 minutes before and I've had a fast moving line before. I guess it depends on who is working and how much they are prepared for the rushes. My only gripe would be that their food is generally on the higher priced side when compared to some other fast food locations.

CHINA WOK:
Thoughts: Not much to look at, but if you like chinese food, this is pretty much your only option in Seymour unless you cook it yourself. This place isn't bad, but it gets old fast, leaving wanting for more variety. The food is generally cooked to order, so it always seems hot...really not a ton of complaints about this place. If you can get the chinese teenagers to stop playing on their phones/video games/schoolwork to take your order you will generally be ok. There does sometimes seem to be some communication issues, but thats to be expected. Beware, trying to order extra sweet and sour sauce is like trying to pull their teeth...and even when you do succeed at ordering it, better make sure it's there...they've got a bad habit of jipping you on the sauces...all of 'em. At least they are fairly timely in getting your order cooked.

SUBWAY:
Thoughts: Yuk. I have a very low opinion of Subway...and not just the Seymour location. The bread seems to be always stale, the portions are pitifully small and the meat is not very fresh. It's all pre-frozen. Most sandwiches end up being 90% bread becasue they portion control everything and top your sandwich with just enough contents to feed a small mouse. The workers never seem to be able to grasp the assembly line concept, thus drawing out your order and time waiting extensively. Nothing good every happens at Subway. Not even food. There are too many other options out there nowdays for subs for you to settle on Subway.

DOMINOS' PIZZA:
Thoughts: Domino's is like the K-Mart of the pizza chains. Not many people eat there, and the ones that do really don't like to admit they do. Lackluster pizza, lackluster deliveries. Domino's really isn't worth writing more than I already have. When they got rid of the Noid, they got rid of the best thing they had going for them.

PAPA JOHN'S PIZZA
Thoughts: I'm not a big fan of Papa John's but that is more of a personal preference. In reality, they do make pretty good pizza. They have a great selection, and delivery times seem to pretty up to par with what is expected. Not alot of complaints here...not alot to write either. Mostly because we rarely eat Papa John's just becasue of personal taste.

CRAVEN WINGS:
Thoughts: I've never seen a place with so much potential that failed to even utterly attempt to succeed. Former located where the current Willies Pizza and Subs is at now, they moved a while back to the strip mall adjacent to Kroger and behind the Seymour Library...where they were not visible AT ALL. They do absolutely no advertising...and thats only a big deal because they are in a location where they are pretty much hidden from view. Talk about poor location choice. On a busy Friday night, you may see 1 or 2 cars in the parking lot, and mostly a room full of empty tables and chairs. As for the food, it's actually not bad...if not a little on the expensive side. The decor is a nice relaxing beachy look if only they had the customer base to enjoy it. The biggest thing they lack once you go in, is friendliness. Seems mostly it's the lady who owns it and she always seems grumpy...don't know why...maybe beasue nobody eats there. Perhapse because they put it back behind everything where it has no visibility? Either way, this place doesn't even try. Don't know that it ever did...and I'm shocked they are still sitting there...twiddling their (chicken) fingers...waiting on customers.

SONIC:
Thoughts: Sonic is pretty consistent location to location, and I find this one no different. It's not bad...service has always been fairly decent...for me at least. I'm not a fan of the ice cream they have...tastes fake for some reason, but their shakes, coneys and sides are pretty good. I'm also growing to like their breakfast...it's pretty good too. Burgers are a little on the dry side, chicken usually seems a bit overcooked, but not that big of a deal seeing as how I usually go for the coneys.

LONG JOHN SILVERS:
Thoughts: Arrgh Matey, and shiver me timbers. This 'un here ull be the place ye go fer sum fish! I've never been very impressed with Long Johns. For a while, when they had their Fresh Side Grill items (Talapia, Shrimp and Salmon) they weren't too bad, hit and miss sometimes, but not too shabby. Now, those are gone, and we are back to the same greasy breaded fish we started with. Mediocre.

WAFFLE HOUSE:
Thoughts: Love the Waffle House. Love it love it love it. Every time I've been in, it was service with a smile, very polite waitresses, food cooked to order and done so fairly quickly. I would eat here every day if I could. They keep it looking fairly nice (for a Waffle House) and the staff, while discussing many different matters amongst themselves, never strayed from taking care of me and offering up the best of service. Love this place. Always have.

PELANCHOS (Also known as "The Restaurant that would Never Open"):
Thoughts: This. Place. May. Never. Open. On a positive note, they've really done alot to improve the asthetic of the building.

ZAXBY'S
Thoughts: One of the better places to eat in Seymour. My biggest gripe is that this is one of those semi-fast-food places that doesn't offer a drink with their value meal. My opinion is, that if you offer a value meal, you need to offer a drink with it...it only makes sense, and face it-pretty much everyone else does it. Other than that, the place is great, service generally good, cooked to order so pretty fresh most of the time, and the food tastes great! Thumbs up!

WILLIE'S RESTAURANT:
Thoughts: (somewhat) Upscale dining in Seymour...a big upgrade and step up from Willie's former location (now housing Willie's Pizza) to the old Bobs Mountaneer building. Glad to see a good place in there...and by the look of things, Willie has it figured out. They stay pretty busy most days of the week. Personally Willie's is hit and miss with me. They still seem fairly inconsistent many times as far as what they offer and what they have in stock. They still seem to have trouble  having enough food on hand to serve their full menu on a busy night. Just about every other time I go in there and order, I'm told they've run out of this or that and I'll have to choose something else. Usually it's the fresh fish they run out of pretty quick. If they can get that under control, they'll be rolling. Also, being the father of small children, I thought it strange they didn't stock milk or juice or any other "kid friendly" drinks. When they are on they are on though...great place for food and fellowship and Willie generally runs a tight ship, so the place is usually in "ship shape" if I can use that pun...

Mr. BOB-E-QUE
Thoughts: This place really does have good food. It's a small hole in the wall, but as they say, these are often the best places. Only gripe I had was the food portions were a bit small for me. Last time I was there I ordered a large BBQ pork sandwich, and it was pretty tiny. The biggest problem this place has, is there is a better BBQ place right up the road...it's called Partons. More on that in a second...

PARTONS SMOKIN' BUTZ BBQ:
Thoughts: Sitting in a fairly iconic Seymour building that once house The Pixie Drive-in, this is probably the best restaurant in Seymour hands down. (In my opinion) The food is second to none, and the portion sizes are huge. A great variety to choose from, and a freindly staff make this place tops! The only gripe is the ribs are not consistent. Sometimes they seem overcooked, which alters the flavor enough for them to go from spectacular to just decent. Other than that, this place is the place to eat in Seymour. They have a big smoker out by the road, and every time I  pass I roll the windows down and let the aroma fill up the car...you gotta try this one.

CONNIE'S KITCHEN:
Thoughts: Located in what used to be Collins Food Mart, Connie has managed to create quite the following at her little hole in the wall restaurant. Serving all sorts of fare, but specializing in Tex-Mex, Connie's has a little something for everyone. The most dissapointing thing about Connie's is the hours. They are only open until 2pm, so for working folks like me, I usually have to settle for breakfast on a Saturday...and Connie can do breakfast like no other. Worth your time to stop in here and try a good  (literally) home-cooked meal. You'll be impressed.

And there you have it! My comprehensive review of pretty much anyplace thats anyplace to eat in Seymour. If I missed anywhere, my apologies...it was either a slip of the mind, or it was somewhere I've not eaten (Big Mikes) and therefore can offer no review. I'd love to hear your comments...you feel the same way? Different? Why or why not? What is your favorite and why?!

Until next time, (or until Seymour gets a self service Froyo joint, or an Arby's) we'll be seeing ya!

Batman through the years: Comparing the Batsuit

Since the first live-action Batman graced the TV screen in the mid 1960's, the Batsuit has had a life of it's own, transforming just as often as Batman himself...sometimes for the better, often times for the worse.

With the newest installment of Batman currently in the filming stages, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at the Batsuit as it has changed across the years. Most importantly, I'd like your opinion...which Batsuit did you like best? Worst? Use the comment section and share your opinion!

BATSUIT I

This is the suit worn by Adam West in the original Batman movie which was adapted from the TV show. Really, one of the least practical, and less appealing suits of them all. Remember, Batman has no powers, so he has to rely on his suit to help him fight crime, and this suit really does nothing but carry a utility belt that amounts to a giant fanny pack. Also, not a big fan of the emblem placement...below the chest and right above the belly. Looks wise, this suit looks more like a childs home made Halloween costume than it does a superhero suit.

BATSUIT II

This suit was donned by Michael Keaton in Tim Burtons 1989 Batman. The suit obviously takes a darker approach to the caped crusader, and is actually quite a bit more practical when it comes to crime fighting. The black suit utilizes body armor, a utility belt and a nifty bat symbol. The one setback to this suit is the cowls inability to let the wearer turn his head from side to side. Other than that though, in my opinion, this suit is pretty solid, and one of my favorites.

Batsuit III

Keatons second turn donning the cowl brought us Batman Returns, and a new batsuit. The most obvious change here, is the suit uses a more plated body armor look, as opposed to the muscle shaped armor of the previous suit. Another notable change is the bat symbol. While similar to Keatons first Batman symbol, this one offers a sleeker appearance, and is by far the most widely used, and recognized bat symbol throughout the world. The cowl itself is fairly similar to the first one, but there are some small changes, barely noticeable.

Batsuit IV & V

I've put these two suits together, because they both make appearances in Batman Forever, the next movie installment of the franchise, this one directed by Joel Schumacher. Gone is Michael Keatons Batman, and in his place, Val Kilmer.
The first suit (Suit IV) has a darker black look to it, and goes back to the muscle shaped body armor. Also, one of the most widely panned features were the horrid "bat nipples" the suit incorporated. You'll note that the suit also strays away from a yellow utility belt, and goes to a sleeker, silver/black belt instead that almost looks like it belongs more in a fantasy movie than a Batman movie. The symbol stays largely the same, with the exception of the background using a color that seems more gold than yellow. B
By the end of the movie, Two Face has destroyed all of Batmans costume, and he is forced to go to a prototype costume (costume V). This costume, strays the furthers from the first three, in that pretty much every detail about it is different. You'll note the suit has more of a dark silver tone instead of black. The cowl is also quite a bit more sleek than it's predecessor, and includes a couple of added points on each side of the face. The most notable change, is that the bat symbol has been replaced, and in it's place, a giant bat across the entire chest of the suit. The oval emblem outline and yellow/gold color are gone as well. The body armor has also changed to a more futuristic look, and really gives a more high-tech look to the suit.

Batsuit VI & VII
Once again, I'll put these suits together, because they both appear in the same movie...Batman and Robin. This time, George Clooney takes his turn donning the cape and cowl of the Dark Knight, and the suit takes some turns changing as well.
The first suit to make an appearance in the movie, is a solid black suit, with muscle-like body armor. The bat symbol is smaller, and contained once again in an oval outline, however there is no yellow or gold in the background...just a raised black symbol on a black background. The utility belt looks a little better compared to its predecessor, and the cowl stays with a sleek look. Overall, the suit is not bad, save for the "bat nipples" that unfortunately make another appearance...one myself, and apparently many other fans could have done without.
The second suit Clooney wears, is in my opinion, the worst suit of all. Incorporating a silver/black mix makes for a horrible looking suit. Like in the previous movie, the emblem has been emblazoned across the entire chest, forsaking the outline. The body armor has taken a more plated futuristic look, and the belt...well, is more of a decoration than a belt. (Also, why are we drawing so much attention to the "bat crotch?" The lightning bolts on the legs are also horrendous as are the notches in the side of the cowl. Not sure who was smoking what when this costume was designed, but its horrible.

Batsuit VIII

This is the first batsuit of the new Batman franchise, directed by Chris Nolan. The first suit we see, donned by Christian Bale in Batman Begins is not a bad looking suit...actually, in my opinion, one of the better ones. The suit is mostly solid black, withe a dark gold utility belt. The cowl has taken a shape that conforms more to the wearers head and looks a bit more menacing. One of the biggest changes here, is the first major change in the bat symbol in quite a while. Gone is the oval border, and yellow background, and in it's place is a different shaped bat emblazoned across the chest of the suit. The body armor takes on a more natural look in blending in with the suit, which fits well with the story line of the costume coming from that of a military developer.

Batsuit IX

The most recent batsuit worn by Christian Bale in The Dark Knight looks less like a superhero suit and more like a piece of modern body armor, which is actually...what it is. The bat symbol has been shrunk a bit, and doesn't quite take up the entire chest as it did in the previous movie, but its still larger than it was in the previous franchise. The utility belt and largely unchanged, and the biggest difference other than the look of the suit, is the wearers ability to move much more freely than in previous suits. This is the first suit to actually allow the wearer to turn his head in the suit, so that is a major plus. The suit does have it's drawbacks however, and that is the that the spots between the pieces of body armor, which are more visible in this suit, allow for easier injuries to Batman. The cowl, is another big change...not only can the user move the head freely since the head piece is completely separate, but it is also the most form-fitting cowl yet..which in my opinion makes it look a bit silly. All in all though, the increased mobility, outweighs the increased risk the suit offers.

There you have it! My assessment of the evolution of the Batsuit. I'll even go a step further and rank them below...which I think are the best, and the worst. Use the comment section to tell us which you think is the best, and which you think is the worst. In the meantime, here is my rank...#1 being the best, and #9 being the worst:

Boris Said What??

Apparently there is a NASCAR driver named Boris Said. I personally am not a fan of NASCAR, opting instead for the open wheel feats of F-1 and Indycar, so I'm not intricately familiar with him, however I loath him simply because his name screws with my head.
It must have taken me 3-4 random articles mentioning the guy to figure out that his last name was actually "Said."
I spent way too much time trying to figure out sentences like this:

"Boris Said in altercation with Greg Biffle." Boris said what? What did he say in this altercation? I want to know???
"The only person available for comment was Boris Said." What? Said who? Who said Boris was the only one available?

You can see where this can become mind boggling. At first you think it's just some typo where some writer didn't proofread, but the more you see it, it really throws you for a loop...or at least it throws me for a loop, being someone who isn't really familiar with NASCAR outside of the normal household names.

Either way, Boris said something...
